Mental Health at the End-of-Life

This module reviews the components of a mental health assessment as well as those strategies designed to keep older adult residents mentally healthy. In addition, the more common mental health challenges for this population are described and specific interventions suggested.


This module is not approved for continuing education credit by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Participants will receive a certificate of completion from the Office of Geriatrics and Gerontology, The Ohio State University College of Medicine. This certificate may be presented to your professional organization for consideration toward required licensure continuing education credit.


Objectives

  1. List common psychosocial developmental tasks at the end of life that affect mental health.
  2. Review components of a mental health assessment.
  3. Name at least five intervention strategies that can improve the mental health of older adults at end-of-life.
  4. Identify anxiety, depression, delirium and dementia as the most common mental health problems during end of life.
  5. Resolve the mental health case study.

Online Module

When completing the on-line module you will be presented with learning objectives, brief cases, questions for reflection (not scored), and interactive lessons with hyperlinks to engage you along the way. Once you complete the lessons, you will be presented with the Post Test (which requires a score of 100%) and then the Module Evaluation, followed by the opportunity to print your Continuing Education Certificate. Modules remain available for your future reference once you have completed them.
