Cultural Competence

Not only is the population we take care of culturally diverse, but long-term care staff have become a culturally-diverse population as well. This module shares information about the importance of valuing cultural diversity during times of serious illness and death. Many insights into cultural competency and self-awareness are addressed.

Objectives

  1. Identify principles of culturally competent care.
  2. Compare and contrast the cultural orientations towards death among white Americans, African-Americans, Latino-Americans and Asian-Americans.
  3. Resolve the Cultural Competence case study.
  4. Define cultural competence.

Online Module

When completing the on-line module you will be presented with learning objectives, brief cases, questions for reflection (not scored), and interactive lessons with hyperlinks to engage you along the way. Once you complete the lessons, you will be presented with the Post Test (which requires a score of 100%) and then the Module Evaluation, followed by the opportunity to print your Continuing Education Certificate. Modules remain available for your future reference once you have completed them.
