Families & End-of-Life Care

1.0 Continuing Education Credit Hour

The purpose of this module is to identify the family as the focus of care during such life events. In order to give gold standard end of life care to our residents, we must also respond therapeutically to the needs of their families. This module explores the variety of family responses towards the death of a loved one, as well as describes therapeutic techniques designed to assist them as they grieve their imminent losses.

Objectives

  1. Describe family dynamics in terms of systems theory.
  2. Identify common problems families have facing death.
  3. List coping strategies designed to support families of dying residents.
  4. Resolve the Families & End-Of-Life Care case study.
