Ethics & End-of-Life Care

1.0 Continuing Education Credit Hour

This module reviews basic ethical principles, professional codes of conduct and patient bills of rights that affect the care that is given to residents in long-term care settings. Steps designed to help you work through ethical dilemmas are outlined, and measures to improve ethical practices where you work are recommended.

Objectives

  1. Identify basic ethical principles which should determine the basis of all care provided in your program.
  2. Use Patient Bills of Rights and Professional Codes of Conduct to inform professional behavior.
  3. List the procedural steps to be taken when facing an ethical dilemma.
  4. Outline the value behind institutional ethics committees.
  5. Resolve the Ethics & End-Of-Life Care case study.

Online Module

When completing the on-line module you will be presented with learning objectives, brief cases, questions for reflection (not scored), and interactive lessons with hyperlinks to engage you along the way. Once you complete the lessons, you will be presented with the Post Test (which requires a score of 100%) and then the Module Evaluation, followed by the opportunity to print your Continuing Education Certificate. Modules remain available for your future reference once you have completed them.
