THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF CAREGIVERS
We know about this great need for caregivers to work with people nearing the end of their lives. Unfortunately, there is not much training available to help deal with some of the tough issues that are involved in caring for these patients. As a result, the number of caregivers (especially in long-term care facilities) is in dangerously low supply. There are many reasons for why these jobs are hard to fill (for example lack of training and low pay). Government policy must address these issues now, before the crisis becomes even worse (see www.directcareclearinghouse.org for more research on this topic).
